Animal-loving care home resident Peggy Green took time on her 102nd birthday to reflect on the secret to her longevity – and said it was a combination of work and adventure.
Peggy, who lives at Hindhead Place Care Home on Portsmouth Road, enjoyed looking back on her action-packed life of toil and travel.
Over the years, Peggy has journeyed across the world, taking time off from her work as a managing supervisor at a power company to adventure to South Africa and the Far East.
She documented it all through her hobby of photography, capturing the beauty of the countries she visited through her trusty camera.
Peggy said: “What’s my secret to a long, happy life? Just being me!
“But seriously, you should work hard at school, take exams, work hard at work, and enjoy life - especially holidays!”
As well as photography, Peggy – born and raised in Godalming - has a deep love of gardening and nature, especially ornithology (the study of birds).
She remains devoted to animals and gets regular visits from one very special friend.
Wellbeing Coach Janice Bayer said: “Peggy’s favourite animal in the whole world is Molly, her friend Sue’s dog.
“She lights up when Molly comes to visit, which is just lovely to see. Peggy is a fantastic lady with an incredible number of stories about her many adventures.
“It’s amazing to think back to how life was when she was born and to consider all the things that have changed over the past 102 years.”
In addition to being a nature lover, Peggy is also a huge admirer of the royal family.
So, it was only fitting that King Charles was the guest of honour on the day of her birthday celebrations.
Janice added: “Peggy thought it was brilliant when ‘King Charles’ turned up and she had a lovely time celebrating her birthday.
“We all feel very privileged to have helped her mark this amazing milestone.”
