Generations unite for breakfast fundraiser at Newton House Care Home

Beautiful bonds have been forged between residents at a Newton Mearns care home and children from Isobel Mair School after they joined forces for charity.

Newton House Care Home on North Greenlaw Way hosted two events as part of their fundraising for STV’s Children’s Appeal, with the pupils visiting on Thursday 24th September.

During a joyful, fun-packed intergenerational session, residents got to know their young visitors while chatting, doing inclusive activities and feasting on breakfast food.

Resident Rina Stevenson, aged 85, said: “We loved meeting the children and spending time with them – they brought so much energy and joy with them."

Resident Gwen Campbell, aged 83, added: “It’s great to see how the teachers at Isobel Mair support the children and to find out more about their school and what they enjoy doing. I hope they come back soon.”

Following the enriching session, the team at Newton House got ready to serve up meals again on Saturday 26th September for the Big Scottish Breakfast campaign.

They raised £220 thanks to donations from families, guests and visitors at the home, which will help fund school breakfast clubs across Scotland.

Home Ambassador Megan Spicer said: “We want to thank our wonderful community for helping us raise money and Isobel Mair School for visiting us.

“It was wonderful to see the way the residents and the children lit up around each other, and we’re really excited to find more opportunities for them to get together.

“The whole experience has been a wonderful celebration of the power of community, to raise money and spirits.”
