Brave firefighters and police officers were given a hero’s welcome when they arrived to meet residents and local children at a Patchway care home.
Lovell Place Care Home, on Sparrowbill Way, hosted a special event on Emergency Services Day where residents took the chance to explore a fire engine and police van.
There were plenty of laughs as children from Snapdragons Nursery joined them, and residents got to try on police hats and firefighter helmets.
Fortunately, the guests from Patchway Neighbourhood Police Team and the Red Watch crew from Patchway Fire Station were quite happy to let the residents get involved.
Resident Dot Greenhill, 93, said: “It was an amazing afternoon. I asked the firefighters to turn on the sirens for me; it was so much fun!”
Home Manager Daney Thomas and her team also shared a heartfelt message of thanks, praising the incredible work their guests do day in, day out.
Daney said: “We are so grateful for everything the emergency services do to keep our communities safe. It was a privilege to celebrate them this afternoon and show our gratitude for their hard work.
“The residents absolutely loved spending time with them, hearing about their work and getting to try out being part of the crew! Thanks to all the police and firefighters who attended.”
