At Newton House Care Home, we believe in creating meaningful moments and experiences that bring joy to our residents — and our latest day trip certainly did just that!
On Friday 30th May, a group of residents and staff from Newton House enjoyed a heartwarming visit to The Purrple Cat Café in Glasgow — a haven for cat lovers and home to over 30 rescue cats. Opened in 2017, this unique café partners with local charity CATFLAP, which works to rescue and rehome cats across the city. The café offers not only a safe sanctuary for its feline residents but also a truly special atmosphere for those who adore animals.
The trip was especially touching for two of our residents, Robin Miller (84) and Judith Stake (84), both lifelong cat lovers. Robin and Judith have both adopted rescue cats in the past, so this visit felt like a trip down memory lane. Their faces lit up as they stroked and cuddled the friendly cats roaming the café — sharing stories, smiles, and a few giggles too!
Robin said, “It reminded me of my old boy Felix. He had the same cheeky look in his eye as one of the cats here today.” Judith added, “I could sit here all day. It’s so relaxing – and they’re all so beautiful.”
The café visit was not only a wonderful sensory and social experience, but also a chance to connect with the values of kindness, rescue, and companionship — all things close to our hearts at Newton House.
We’re so grateful to the Purrple Cat Café for their warm welcome and can’t wait to return for another paws-itively lovely visit!
